The Giroscope project in Hull buys and renovates empty properties to create homes for those in housing need. They also add value by training residents through involvement with the renovations. This self-help model is a brilliant addition to the community led housing mix, tackling empty properties and building a more stable economic future for these communities.
Alongside Giroscope, we will hear about the Home Baked CLT movement in Liverpool, transforming an area which was earmarked for demolition into a buzzing community of residents and workers ‘brick by brick and loaf by loaf’.
There will be plenty of time to ask questions about this inspirational work.
Target audience: 3rd sector working with vulnerable adults – staff, volunteers and service users; Housing Associations and community groups.

Solid Foundations Festival
A festival of online events showcasing local and national models of community led housing. Community Led Housing is housing which is built or brought back into use by local people, owned or managed by the community, for the community, in perpetuity. This event hosted by the Cumbria and Lancaster Community Led Housing Hub provides an opportunity to hear from and talk to some of the groups delivering inspirational housing models that challenge the status quo.
You are welcome to attend as many of the sessions as you like, for free, but you should register on each one individually to ensure that you receive the correct Zoom link.
